I practically laughed out loud the other day when I saw this fan (apologize for the dustiness - it's been in the garage for a while - you'll learn how). Why? Well, begrudgingly she says, I will relate, but you have to realise this was a ages ago (last year) and I can't say the embarrassment has quite worn off.
I was all excited. I had started my blog, and was searching around for fun DIYs to share. Pinterest, my trusty friend, provided ample inspiration. Project after project was tossed around in the air, and then my oh my, I saw this:
Goodness me, what a state I was in! I knew we had an old fan upstairs, and some primary coloured paint. It was one of those rare moments in life where I actually had everything I needed for a DIY. I allocated the whole of my saturday morning. Yup, dedication right there.
So I was taking photos to MAKE SURE I documented everything. First stroke of paint SNAP second stroke of paint SNAP holding my snack SNAP third stroke of paint SNAP.
Oh, and something no one ever tells you is that you shouldn't turn a fan on when it has wet paint on it. That's partly why the paint is slightly spotted - and why my grey t-shirt has tiny flecks of paint on it. Actually, that could be something that people TELL you to do! Because who doesn't want a cool rainbow spotted shirt? Genius (and in case you're wondering, it comes off hair and skin just fine).
My half sanding attempt was an absolute fail, so I did have to do several coats of paint. Finally (I believe it was a Tuesday) the time came to turn it on. What spectacular sight was I greeted with?
Brown. Poo brown. You know the colour poo? Well that was it. Where was that "fantastic rainbow," eh? POO BROWN. POOOOOO BROOOOOOOWWWN.
So shortly after this episode the fan returned to it's loyal spot in the garage, no questions asked.
Occasionally the poo fan comes out of hiding on a hot day, but mostly it likes to lie low where no one can see. I don't blame it.
Putting my pride behind me, I am really writing this a year later to warn other nieve diy-ers. Don't be fooled by some fancy-fancy-woo-lop on pinterest saying THE WORLD IS A GREAT PLACE LOOK AT ME WITH MY RAINBOW FAN. Well I give up - how? How did they not end up with a poo fan?!?!? It is beyond me.
You have been warned, my friends. I would love to hear about your adventures in the world of crafting - I promise I won't laugh - ok maybe a little - comment below :)
Yours truly.

Tea towel cushions
Friday, 8 August 2014
my kitty ♥
Welcome, beautiful.
My favourite colour is teal/duck egg blue, so naturally these cushions are exactly what I had in mind for my room.
The best part is…I made them myself. (well, with quite a bit of help from my friend who is the QUEEN of cushions - she did the first zip, and then I was like “Ok, I’ll try this next one!” Five restarts and unpickings later, I decided she could finish that one too. If you see her in the street say hi!)
The tea towels are from Wallace and Cotton, the zips just from Ikes. The great thing about making your own cushions is that you can make them exactly how you want.
Because (as stated above) I didn’t really knock the zips out of the park, I think if be better if someone else taught you. Just use google, let's be honest, I'm sure there will be some cushion expert out there.
I bought a square cushion inner from Spotlight, and because the tea towel (folded over) is rectangle, I sewed in the sides so as to have flaps and a tight cushion. I think they look fab, but you could cut the material or have a looser cushion. Up to you!

White Christmas Pompoms
Tuesday, 3 December 2013
Pompoms.
Just like
little puffles, aren’t they? Getting crafty for Christmas, I made these pompoms
to add some spice to my room, décor on a budget. Hanging from the roof they
literally make me want to jump up and down and say “SNOOOOWWWWWW!!!” because a) they’re white b) they remind me of snow and c)
we don’t get snow where I am.
Here’s the
story: because I love things that remind me of snow and are white (as I dutifully
stated above), last year I naturally made paper snowflakes. 2d, of course. This
year I decided to upgrade things to 3d (woop woop) and hence the puffles (oops I
meant pompoms) dangling from roof. I arranged them in a chandelier type shape
as a Christmas-y centerpiece :)
You need
some tissue paper, pipe cleaners and string. That’s it.
Instead of
me telling you how to make them step by step with random instructions and
confusing photos, I’ll just head you in the right direction with a trusty
youtube video.
And by the way, instead of using a whole rectangle of tissue paper, I just used
a quarter so that 6 of them could fit in my room without feeling cluttered.
Have loads
of good times and my advice is to listen to Christmas music while you’re doing
the cutting and folding part.

Fabric Flowers
Sunday, 28 July 2013
So here's a mini tutorial on how to make fabric flowers. They are perfect for sewing on to t shirts, headbands, necklaces, and more. I was especially enchanted with the idea of floral head crowns!
First cut out a circle (it doesn't have to be perfect).
Then fold it in half...
Then fold it in half again so it looks like the photo above.
Repeat this whole process and stick the two pieces of folded fabric together so it looks like the photo above.
And voila! Finish xx
Knot Headband
Sunday, 14 July 2013
You need some material and scissors (also maybe a needle and thread if you want to sew the ends together).
Measure the material around your head and cut two strips that length. Cross them over!
Fold the strips over in half, so it looks like the picture above. That's the hardest part done!
So that's basically it....easy, right? I usually just tie the ends together, but if you can be bothered, sewing the ends together is great too. Thanks for reading, please comment and tell me what you think, and have a great day! xBored Jar
Saturday, 6 July 2013
Hey! So this bored jar is basically for when you have NO IDEA what to with yourself, and need some fun. It's super easy and it sends the Boredom Monster running for the hills ;)
You need:
-a jar
-some stuff to decorate it
-some craft paper
So it's this easy: Decorate your "bored jar" with ribbons, craft paper, etc. Then cut the craft paper into little pieces of paper, and on each piece write a crazy and fun dare. For example, "bake a cake", "do 50 star jumps", "do your hair crazy and take selfies", "make a music video", etc. Make up your own random ones! Fold up these little bits of paper (kind of like in fortune cookies) and put them in the jar. Then whenever you're feeling B.O.R.E.D, pick random bits of paper from the jar and do them! (I dare you).
Have fun (I know I did!!) xx
Bunting Necklace
Wednesday, 27 March 2013
This is a necklace I made the other day, it was inspired by all those cute little bunting necklaces that are all the rage but a little out of my price range (see what I did there - rage, range??? - haha). So then I decided I'd experiment with cardboard and nailpolish...and look what happened!
All you need to do is get a teeny triangle template from the internet, and cut out as many triangles as you wish (I did 5) and then paint them any colours you fancy! I went for neon, but pastels would be stunning as well. Then punch little holes in the corners (if you don't have a hole punch small enough use a nail - that's what I did!) and then use jump rings to attach it to a chain. All done without even getting your fingers dirty! (unless the nail was rusty).
Hope everyone is having a great week, and happy easter! x
Glitter Ring
Thursday, 31 January 2013
Wanna make this gorgeous ring? It's easy! You just need glitter, mod podge, a paintbrush, a ring and a hoop. Just so you know *EXACTLY* what I'm talking about, here's a photo:
Glue the hoop onto the ring with some kind of super glue (I used epoxy). Mix equal amounts of mod podge and glitter together, use any color you love (blue's my favorite color but I'm desperate to try fluro pink!). Scoop the mixture into the hoop and dry upright. It dries completely hard and flat, so maybe try swirling it up a bit if you want more texture x
PS: The nail polish I'm wearing in the photo is a gorgeous OPI one from the new 007 Skyfall collection. It's called "The World Is Not Enough"!

Glitter Sunglasses
Tuesday, 29 January 2013
Dazzlingly gorgeous ;)
I was cleaning out my room the other day and I found these glasses in the bottom of my draw (that's where most of the treasures are found) and all down the sides the paint was peeling. So after doing a bit of reading on the web, I found something to do with them. Glitter them! I am a fan of glitter and mod podge so I can't go wrong, right? It was as simple as pie: paint the sides with mod podge, sprinkle glitter on them, and then wait to dry.
Now, if there is anyone for making mistakes it's me (classic cinnamon instead of cocoa when making a cake), but nothing went wrong! They turned out great! Just paint another layer of mod podge on top of the glitter and voila ;)

Hearts On The Wall
I made these cute hearts to decorate my room, there was a bare wall so I thought why not hang something gorgeous on it? I made them exactly like pin cushions, and sewed the letters d r e a m on them (you can't see it in the photos)
Are they cute or what?? (the little bird was actually a Christmas decoration!)
They're so easy to make, and with choosing the fabrics you can go crazy with colors! x
